By Laura White Barton, HNA Treasurer The 2023 annual neighborhood picnic was held on the first day of school – August 16, 2023. Approximately 150 neighbors gathered to converse, watch magic tricks, play on the Highlands Elementary playground, and enjoy Jeff Bradley's grilled brats and chorizos. Treasurer Laura Barton served as emcee and introduced Nicole Carr, Energize Our Neighborhoods Program Manager, and Boise City Councilman Jimmy Hallyburton to those gathered. Ms. Carr and Mr. Hallyburton spoke to the crowd. Neighbors enjoyed wandering magician Kipp Sherry's card tricks and illusions. Children and adults beat the heat with popsicles and cold drinks. The Highlands Neighborhood Association would like to thank neighbors for their generous donations to the picnic fund and for bringing side dishes to share. The next neighborhood picnic is planned for September 2024. Photos by Steven Schimbke.
