Be sure to mark your calendars for Thursday, June 15! That's the date for the 12th annual Highlands Neighborhood Picnic at the Highlands Elementary picnic shelter.
This year we'll ask residents to RSVP if they can attend, so we can better plan for the right amount of food/beverages. More details to come soon! By Shannon Reagan, HNA Secretary
Good news for Highlands residents who want to clear brush and wildfire fuel from their property – the chipper truck will return sometime this summer. As of the Highlands Neighborhood Association annual meeting in April, it didn't look like this would be the case. The $4,000 left over from the 2016 City of Boise Neighborhood Reinvestment Grant, which paid for the program in the past, was not enough to cover another visit this year. However, after meeting with representatives from the City of Boise and the Boise Fire Department this week, HNA Vice President Scott Tuthill and former HNA Vice President Rob Parsons learned that city and fire officials would be willing to pitch in extra funds from their own budgets to cover the costs. To make use of the available funding, the program must be completed by September 30, so Scott Tuthill is working with the chipper truck contractor to schedule dates. As in the past, the chipper truck will visit on a weekday for two consecutive weeks. Those dates will be announced as soon as they are confirmed. The HNA board members would like to thank Kathleen Lacey, Comprehensive Planner and Neighborhood Coordinator for the City of Boise, Wildfire Mitigation Coordinator Jerry McAdams from the Boise Fire Department, and former HNA Vice President Rob Parsons for their assistance in bringing the chipper truck back one more time! Dear Highlands Neighbors,
The newly elected officers of the Highlands Neighborhood Association look forward to serving on the board in the year ahead, and would like to thank everyone who attended last night's meeting. Huge thanks also go to the outgoing board members – Bob Mitchell, Rob Parsons, Marcia Wing and Judy Richardson – for their service and support of our neighborhood. In case you were not able to attend this week’s annual HNA meeting, here are the names of the new officers: Jeff Bradley, President Scott Tuthill, Vice President Shannon Reagan, Secretary Laura Barton, Treasurer The board is committed to maintaining the transparency and warm, welcoming demeanor of the outgoing officers. We intend to be open, take input from all neighbors and operate from consensus. We will be reaching out in the very near future with more specifics on our annual Highlands Neighborhood Association Picnic, where we look forward to meeting those of you whom we don’t already know. (Jeff has volunteered to bring his equipment and fry a few turkeys!) We also look forward to continuing the HNA’s work in obtaining community grants from the city. Please feel free to contact us at any time. Sincerely, Jeff, Scott, Shannon and Laura |
