Several weeks ago, the Highlands Neighborhood Association Executive Committee launched a survey. Its purpose was to gauge our neighborhood’s interest in forming one or more committees to work on issues residents felt were important. The purpose of this note is to share the results. Overall there were 72 valid responses. Regrettably this is a very low number. There are over 1,200 households in the Highlands and about half of them subscribe to Nextdoor – which was one of three methods we used to get the word out on the survey. The other ways being the Highlands Facebook page and the Highlands web site. It is always difficult to quantify and assess the meaning of survey non-respondents, but certainly households that did not respond are saying they see little or no importance in any of the potential committees. So, we have responses from well less than 10% of the neighborhood and likely more than 90% indicating little or no interest. With this background, the survey results did present a clear picture of what residents felt was important. Of the four potential committees the percentage of respondents indicating it was “Very Important – we need this committee” were as follows: Traffic Safety:42% Firewise: 28% Highlands School: 27% Neighborhood Assistance: 13% (See the included photo for the complete results and if anyone would like more details please contact us.) Based on these results, and in a desire to do something, the Executive Committee has decided to form a single committee focused on Traffic Safety. As outlined in the survey, the traffic safety committee will be: “a standing committee looking out for the safety of all residents related to traffic issues: drivers, pedestrians, bikers, etc. This committee will act as a clearing house for all resident traffic concerns. They are charted with preparing any Highlands wide input and comments to area traffic plans – such as with ACHD and the City of Boise. They should also be continually aware of Highlands-centric traffic topics in these organizations, understand and fit into their planning calendars, etc.” If you are interested in participating on this committee, please notify the HNA Executive Committee. The Executive Committee will collect the names of interested residents and from them select a committee chairperson. That person will then complete the staffing of their committee. We also will put more detail into documenting the committee charter. Thanks to all that did take time to respond to the survey. You voice was heard and we are taking action based what you said. |
